The Maakana Restaurant, situated on the southern side of the resort, adjacent to the beach and overlooking the azure ocean, offers a comprehensive dining experience encompassing breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The restaurant’s buffet caters to diverse palates, featuring an extensive selection of dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options upon request.
The international breakfast buffet presents a delightful assortment of fresh tropical fruits and juices, artisanal breads and pastries, delectable European cold cuts and cheeses, and expertly prepared eggs cooked at the restaurant’s dedicated cooking station.
The lunch buffet presents a diverse array of options, encompassing pizza, pasta, salads, and a sizzling barbecue grill. This grill is where the day’s catch of fish and a selection of meats are expertly prepared and served to your satisfaction. The restaurant also regularly serves local dishes, complemented by an extensive menu of international cuisines. Our Marine Laboratory is one of its kind among resort islands, as it combines active marine research with educational guest experiences. Here, our guests are not only able to see science in action but also contribute to data collection through citizen science projects and get hands-on experience in coral restoration.
As a result of the ongoing collaboration between Diamonds Thudufushi and MaRHE Center of the University of Milano-Bicocca, the new laboratory was opened in October 2022. It is fitted with modern equipment to conduct, for example, DNA analysis as well as new technologies such as 3-D printing to supplement the coral restoration research. Our resident and visiting scientists bring modern research techniques in reach of the public by providing hands-on experiences, enlightening talks and dedicated workshops for our guests.

Become a marine biologist yourself for a day and help our team to assess reef health, to study the marine creatures, big and small, around our island or help to regrow corals in our coral garden. Our guests can also experience the virtual reality of diving on a pristine coral reef or swimming among the biggest and most illusive creatures of the ocean.
Finally, at the heart of our marine biology activities is the protection and rehabilitation of coral reefs. Our coral conservation project was established in 2015 and is now among the largest and longest-running ones in the Maldives. It has been accompanied by active research resulting in multiple international publications and hands-on experiences like The Big Build. Learn all about corals and how to save them, assist our team in running and maintaining our restoration sites and get hands-on experience in coral restoration practices.
